The term "fidelity" is often defined as loyalty or faithfulness and accuracy of the representation when compared to the real world (mostly for used for audio). Fidelity is a privately held company, controlled mostly by the Johnson family. In 1943, Edward C. Johnson II was elected President and Director of Fidelity Fund. Edward Johnson III has been chairman of the firm since 1977. His daughter, Abigal Johnson, was named president of the company in 2001.
Fidelity funds are known for their innovations.
