Who Is Vanguard?:
Chances are, if you are a mutual fund investor, you have come across Vanguard mutual funds. Vanguard, founded in 1975 by legendary investment industry spokesperson John Bogle, is known as a low cost, index mutual fund provider.
While Vanguard has many actively-managed funds, ETFs, brokerage services, and annuity products, their claim of offering the first index fund to individual investors has led Vanguard to be the largest mutual fund company in the world.
Vanguard’s Unique Ownership Structure:
Vanguard takes pride in their ownership structure, which coupled with their scale as a large company, has allowed them to remain the low-cost mutual fund leader. Vanguard is owned by the mutual funds which are owned by shareholders of the mutual funds. This unique structure allows Vanguard, a not-for-profit company, to pass cost savings through to mutual fund shareholders via lower expense ratios.
