Between October 2001 and December of 2002, the S&P 500 annualized at -11.2 percent a year.  This is much worse than previous wars, though the war is far from over.  This "War" is unique in that it involves a group of people spread across many nations.  Below is a monthly chart of the conflict through the end of 2002.
