Ask an investment professional if investing during war is a good idea and the answers will vary. For a better understanding of how the stock market fares during war times, I took a look at WWII, Korean War, Vietnam, Desert Storm and the recent conflicts.
Using the S&P 500 to represent the U.S. market, I was able to find monthly data during war times. In each war or conflict I chart out the monthly returns, provide some war statistics about the size of the military involvement and deaths (doesn't include deaths from the oppostition) so you can make a smarter decision on how to invest during war times.
As you know, the stock market is multifaceted and very unpredictable. Past history is not the best indicator, but sometimes it is all we have to go off of. Regardless of how you use the data, it is interesting to look at. Enjoy!
